Florida Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts

We always intended for Sulzbacher to be much more than just a homeless shelter when we opened our doors in 1995.  Almost from the beginning, we became a ‘center of services’ where an individual or family experiencing homelessness could come to address all of their needs.
The newest expansion in our history occurred in May 2018, when Sulzbacher Village, a community for women and families, opened its doors. The Village is an affordable housing community that provides permanent housing to single women, female veterans and single- and two-parent families, 70 units in all, accommodating 310 people. Fifty-two additional units accommodate women and families in need of short-term emergency housing and medical respite. Located in the Brentwood neighborhood, Sulzbacher Village offers a wide variety of on-site programs and services specifically for the women and children living there.
Sulzbacher Village is the agency’s first permanent housing community. And while we will continue to utilize scattered-site housing and other housing options for our clients as needed, the Village provides the opportunity to assure continuity of case management and other programs to residents so that they become completely independent.
It’s the funding that we receive from the community — and people like you — that allows them to come to fruition. Sulzbacher could still be just a homeless center, providing shelter and food to those in need. But with each step, this community embraced our vision and made it its own. Our evolution is directly linked to the diverse group of individuals, companies, foundations and others who believe that the most vulnerable among us deserve their respect and their support. As the need continues, so does the need for funding. There are many ways to help.
